Key takeaways
Fastest internet in New Jersey
Fast internet plans in New Jersey offer gig speeds and higher, with the fastest plan reaching up to 8,000 Mbps with Optimum for $120.00/mo. in certain areas. Other fast internet in New Jersey includes Verizon’s multi-gig fiber plan, as well as Xfinity’s cable-fiber hybrid service up to 2 Gbps.
These speeds are more than the average household needs, especially considering the median internet speed in New Jersey of 307 Mbps, which is also on par with the U.S. median speed of 298 Mbps. New Jersey has a latency of 10 ms, which is at the bottom of the range of 10 – 20 ms that is considered low latency.
Some cities in New Jersey with speeds faster than the entire state and country include Paterson, Elizabeth and Burlington, each with median speeds well above 300 Mbps. Explore the fastest internet providers in the state in the following table, but keep in mind that availability varies by address, so always check your ZIP code.

Cheapest internet in New Jersey
The cheapest internet service New Jersey offers includes Starry Internet starting at $30.00/mo. and Xfinity and Optimum plans starting at $25.00/mo. However, the average cost of internet in New Jersey is consistent with the U.S. average price of $60.00 – $100.00/mo. for speeds of at least 100 Mbps.
Before choosing a cheap internet plan, consider the overall value and speed — some faster plans that cost a bit more may be a better fit for you than the cheapest option.
Bundling can help reduce cost, like with Verizon Fios plans, but not all providers offer savings for bundled services. If you’re switching providers, check out promotional offerings that offer new-customer discounts, but beware of price hikes after that period ends. You can also check income eligibility for low-cost internet programs like Xfinity’s Internet Essentials, Access from AT&T and Verizon Forward.

New Jersey internet customer reviews
Find the right internet provider for you with Allconnect’s real customer reviews. Internet users in your area discuss their experiences with Xfinity in the following reviews.
Xfinity has the worst customer service of any company that I deal with. Service is good until you need to call them.
2/5
I just want internet service and ended up with a streaming NOW service as well. Trying to change that has been impossible. No way that I have found to reach a human being to change current plan. Also get frequent buffering in middle of activity.

Xfinity is the only real option in our area but we have signal drops constantly. And then we are told that the issue must be our equipment despite it being compatible, set up by their techs, and troubleshooted four times by their techs.
