How we review internet in Houston
Our methodology
We evaluate broadband providers in four categories: affordability, performance, value and customer satisfaction. Each category contains multiple sub-factors, all of which are weighted differently to impact the provider’s overall score.
For each sub-factor, we score all providers on a continuous scale of one to five, relative to the industry as a whole. Because the average download speed in America is currently 290 Mbps, for example, we assigned all plans with download speeds between 100 and 299 Mbps a score between three and four. Xfinity’s 200 Mbps plan received a 3.50 score for download speed, while Spectrum’s 500 Mbps plan got a 3.71.
We only considered standardized data points in our scoring system. More abstract data like consistency of service and brand reputation is still part of our analysis, but we opted to let our writers address them in the context of each review.

Game changing latency. Always 100% uptime never had any buffering or downtimes from AT&T Fiber, I’ve gotten my full 1 Gig speeds, hands down the true best provider.

So far great service. Was restored as soon as power was restored after Hurricane Beryl.
5/5
Purchased a plan from the mymove website after signing my lease. The internet plan I chose said I was eligible for a gift card (forgot the exact dollar amount but it was $150-$200 I believe). After signing up for the service, AT&T emailed me saying I was eligible for a free blue tooth speaker. I asked about the gift card offer and was met with no real answer. Advise you double check any special promotions your potential ISP offers on their own website to make sure the offers/promotions are accurate.

What speed do you need?
The internet speed you need depends on the number of devices connected to your network and the internet activities your household consistently engages in. A small household of one or two light internet users can get by with at least 100 – 300 Mbps, while a larger household of heavy internet users should opt for 300 Mbps and higher. The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) minimum broadband speed is 100/20 Mbps, so we don’t recommend getting a plan with speeds lower than this.
Internet users who consistently participate in bandwidth-heavy activities like gaming, streaming, downloading large files and more may need gig or multi-gig speeds. These users would also benefit from a fiber connection since fiber provides symmetrical download and upload speeds and is considered the fastest and most reliable type of internet.
Check out our ISP and speed recommendation quiz.
