Xfinity Customer Reviews:
Fastest internet in Ohio
Fast internet isn’t always a gig plan. You can keep a midsize household with multiple connected devices seamlessly online with 300 to 500 Mbps. If you want the fastest options, though, Spectrum’s fastest plan is $90.00/mo. for up to 2 gigs in speed, while AT&T offers the fastest internet option in Ohio with its 5 gig plan for $155.00/mo.,** but availability is focused in urban areas such as Columbus and Cleveland. When shopping for fast internet, remember that not all plans and speeds are available at every address. Start your search by checking available providers in your ZIP code.

Cheapest internet in Ohio
The cheapest internet plan in Ohio starts at $30.00/mo. from altafiber. Other cheap internet plans include 5G home internet from Verizon, but you must pair it with a mobile plan to get the cheapest rate. Unless you’re already a Verizon mobile customer or looking to switch mobile providers, altafiber’s all-fiber service and Xfinity’s cable and fiber plans may offer a better deal.
If you need a low-cost internet option, some providers offer discount programs. For qualifying homes, Xfinity offers internet for under $15.00/mo. with the Internet Essentials program. Xfinity’s prepaid internet option, NOW Internet, is also an affordable pay-as-you-go option if you are looking for a cheaper plan with more flexibility. Keep in mind there are speed and data constraints, unlike those with postpaid internet options.

How we review internet in Ohio
In the Midwest, internet providers vary by quality, but the best internet Ohio offers is easily found when we use a multi-factor approach to grade providers. Internet speeds in Ohio are the main priority to many, but customer service, fees and other data are also important.
Our methodology
We evaluate broadband providers in four categories: affordability, performance, value and customer satisfaction. Each category contains multiple sub-factors, all of which are weighted differently to impact the provider’s overall score.
For each sub-factor, we score all providers on a continuous scale of one to five, relative to the industry as a whole. Because the average download speed in America is currently 290 Mbps, for example, we assigned all plans with download speeds between 100 and 299 Mbps a score between three and four. Xfinity’s 200 Mbps plan received a 3.50 score for download speed, while Spectrum’s 500 Mbps plan got a 3.71.
We only considered standardized data points in our scoring system. More abstract data like consistency of service and brand reputation is still part of our analysis, but we opted to let our writers address them in the context of each review.
Ohio internet statistics
When Ohio’s median download and upload speeds are compared to those of the greater U.S., Ohio is ahead of the rest of the country in median download speeds but falls behind in median upload speeds.

Internet availability in Ohio
Almost all of Ohio can access the minimum broadband speed of 100 Mbps, while 57% are able to access gig speeds and higher. Satellite is the most available internet type (100% of the state), followed by cable (84%). Fixed wireless covers 54% of the state, but fiber is only available to 42% of Ohio. According to Ookla Speedtest data, the median download speed in Ohio is 306 Mbps. Top providers in the state include Spectrum, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon, but AT&T delivers the fastest speeds. Where cable, 5G and fiber aren’t available — mainly rural areas — satellite is the main internet option, but there are various ongoing initiatives aimed at improving rural Ohio’s internet access.

Most available providers in Ohio
Satellite is the most available type of internet in Ohio — and the rest of the country. It is often the only choice for rural residents who cannot access fiber and cable options, which tend to be concentrated in more populated areas of the state. In Ohio, Hughesnet and Starlink are available everywhere, but the most available non-satellite provider is Spectrum’s cable service, with 75% coverage of the state. T-Mobile is also a solid option, with 73% coverage, but AT&T’s fiber service provides the fastest and most reliable internet to 54% of Ohio. Check your ZIP code to find the providers available at your home, since provider availability varies by location.
Quality of internet in Ohio
95% of Ohio has access to the minimum recommended broadband speeds, but only about 60% of the state has access to gigabit speeds:
- Residents with broadband access (speeds at or over 100/20 Mbps): 95%
- Residents with broadband access (speeds at or over 250/25 Mbps): 89%
- Residents with access to gigabit speeds (at or over 1,000/100 Mbps): 57%
