DIRECTV sports packages

The DIRECTV Sports Pack offers live pro and collegiate sports and 20+ sports networks.

DIRECTV equipment

DIRECTV has several DVR devices: the Gemini, Gemini Air, Genie, Genie 2 and Genie mini.

The Gemini device can be used for satellite customers and the Gemini Air is for streaming customers. The Genie devices are for satellite customers only.

DIRECTV allows you to watch TV using your existing home internet with the new Gemini device. It can give you access to thousands of streaming apps. Gemini’s voice remote lets you discover shows, and you can change channels by using Google Assistant.

A Genie DVR serves up HDTV for all the TVs in your home. You can pause, record and delete TV shows from any room. Record up to seven shows at once, all in HD.

DIRECTV installation

Once you schedule your appointment, your DIRECTV technician will handle the rest once your installation date arrives. Make sure someone age 18 or older is available during the installation process to provide easy access to your roof or balcony.

DIRECTV fees

DIRECTV will hit you with some fees depending on the service you choose. Both services may come with regional sports fees, DVR fees and device fees. Its satellite service will charge a bit more, considering it requires professional installation, a receiver fee and has a two-year contract that will charge you an Early Termination Fee if you cancel.

For each sub-factor, we score all providers on a continuous scale of one to five, relative to the industry as a whole. Because the average download speed in America is currently 290 Mbps, for example, we assigned all plans with download speeds between 100 and 299 Mbps a score between three and four. Xfinity’s 200 Mbps plan received a 3.50 score for download speed, while Spectrum’s 500 Mbps plan got a 3.71.
